Choc was injured during the last race on the penultimate
day of the 2013/2014 season when Say When stumbled and fell during a National Hunt Maiden Hurdle when travelling
downhill to the far bend at Chepstow; he sustained a broken rib and a small chip to his C4
(neck) vertebra, being detained in Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital for a couple of days before beginning
his recuperation |

On
21 September 2015 Choc officially announced that he had been forced to
retire from race riding following a distinguished career due to ongoing
problems resulting
from his fall in April 2014. He
explained that nerve damage in his neck causes
intermittent tingling and numbness in his upper limbs and the BHA were
thus unable to pass him fit to ride again. During
this career, Choc rode 1,120 NH winners in the UK, plus 6 on the flat and 3
in Ireland. He also won 16 races at the Cheltenham Festival |
