CHARITY
FOOTBALL DAY – 7 SEPTEMBER 2008
|
The
annual National Hunt North vs. South Jockeys football match was scheduled to
be played after racing on 7 September 2008 at Worcester. However, due to heavy downpours in the area,
the unfortunate course was again flooded by the River Severn and the fixture
abandoned. The Wayne Burton Fund was
to have been the beneficiary of the event. Although
Choc rode at Fontwell Park that day and therefore
would not have been available to play for the Southern team, he was to have
offered a ‘special’ prize in the accompanying auction. I’d love to walk the course at Cheltenham
with Choc, if my finances would permit. Postscript: Worcester
Racecourse later held an email/postal auction of the ‘special’ prizes so,
having raided my piggybank, I bid for and was fortunate enough to win Choc’s ‘special’ prize consisting of tickets and lunch
for 2 at Cheltenham racecourse on Sunday 16 November 2008 and the opportunity
to walk the course with him which, having been postponed due to a 1-day
riding ban, occurred on Saturday 13 December 2008. To read the account of my first visit to Cheltenham races please
